The representation of a man or woman being mentally unwell or being seen as off the walls actually can have some differences in the media, whether is be from the idea that people are thought of faking it, or being dramatic, being seen in small amounts truly unwinding with serious issues speculated. Or the show clearly telling you that its not just in their heads, or making you question it not being real.
A woman unhinging to the other characters minds, but the show giving us a clear case of something real happening that is impossible to explain. It gives them their personal motivation, while them knowing that they are crazy, even admitting it yet holding their belief inside the whole time.
Take Mrs. Buyers from Stranger things. Her son goes missing, and she is out of her mind trying anything she can to find Will Buyers, her youngest son. The minimum thing to say here is that in the context of the show, she progresses more into deep dark methods of finding the son thats still actually in her house, but just out of reach. The show clearly tells us going forward that she is hearing him through supernatural means that no one else is there to see, impossible things that obviously make her sound like she is just grieving, which she pretty much is to anyone who doesn't believe her woes. In this case everyone is reasonably and respectfully trying to console what is seen as her insanity, until it comes to her EX. The father of her sons comes to the news of... and terrorizes her behavior by referencing their differences and his beliefs of her as a poor parent who is denying her and the worlds responsibility, wrongly, from her supposed grief. The only gendered based difference in the whole dynamic is that all her shouting insistence and crying is met with less hurried actions or retreating acceptance than if a man was acting that hastily, and with the same relative aggression she showed throughout. This kind of passive concept of a "Crazy lady".

I'm not saying in real life that I believe there really is this explainable paranormal situation like people breaking through your floor then rewinding through time, versus an unstable man living on his own in an apartment breaking his floors in his drunken states sort of situation... But in many ways media handles the reactions the "reasonable" side sees of the insanity the two different genders of people can see. When they aren't so insane that their about to hurt someone or themselves and have to be held down, is that men are given more of an air of caution and more aggressive defensive stances to someone who has seemingly lost it, versus nearly just almost moving along or pushing aside the situations women have in many cases. Almost going back to barbaric sense that women are just "like that", and shouldn't be considered seriously. It often affects more the intensity and tone of the reaction between two people, rather than the nature of the insanity or disbelief.
The other kinds of examples are even too present in real life, the large amount of teenage self harm, self harming habits, and suicide rates, due to the way cyber bullying, and popular media in the negative. Sometimes popular shows are presented, girls in particular, as the situation showing you to suck it up for both sides, or else your going to be put in a nuthouse or seen a freak, in a world that reciprocates the very cycles that push both sides, not just girls, to these extreme places. Really the things that build to such terrible acts up to taking your own life, or taking others' lives, aren't different, but they affect differently. "You f___ing sissy! You gonna cry some more", where boys hold it in, which leads them to letting their real life mental issues persist to dangerous levels by hiding the pain that would lead to more pain to let it out at all. Where girls have a higher tolerance for many of these behavioral situations, but only because its too often seen as a phase or something they can get through with screaming and crying that is implied making the teenager the brooding antagonistic person who just has to grow out of it. This kind of crazy is quiet, but the most dangerous, the type where they really are truly and deeply mentally unstable, and even if they do grow out of these supposed "phases". They could walk into their adult lives with deep issues of trust, PTSD, anxiety, stress, that they hold even tighter, until it might start to unwind them from the inside out. The most troubled people are the quietest when they are truly insane.
